I've grown up riding dirt bikes and now that most of my friends have motorcycles, I'd really like to start riding with them.

I can only spend 2k cash (I know it's not a lot but college=poor), so let me know what you have. I'm open to road bikes (Rebel, Eliminator, Buell Blast, etc.) or crotch rockets (Ninja, GSXR).

I don't have unrealistic expectations for 2k, but I'm hoping someone might be looking to upgrade from their first bike or something along those lines. I don't know much about fixing bikes myself so please don't offer me something that "only needs the top end rebuilt".

Is it even worth going to a dealer and hoping to find something used in that range or do they not have used stuff? If it's under 3k I could probably put half down and finance the rest...
