Premium won't necessarily hurt the NA motor but it does make it harder to start and leads to a bit more carbon build up over time.
Remember a redline a day keeps the mechanic away.
You can mostly tell the difference between low and high octane in the low end of the power band, especially say when autocrossing - I ran a tank of super once and that was enough to convice me never to do that again.
