ok to settle this once and for all:
96-98:
99-00:
another view, of both, side by side (just look at shapes):
notice the tails on the right are not as slanted as the ones on the left. the angle is nearly straight up and down on the 96-98, and the 99-00 are at a slant. the license plate garnishes are different shapes as well.
hondaautomotiveparts.com parts numbers for trunk lids:
96-98: 68500-S01-305ZZ
99-00: 68500-S01-A10ZZ
