I would adjust the brightness/contrast, then mess with the color tones. I also notice it looks like you added shades of black. Probably to make it darker. Thats a no no based on my photoshoping experience. But I don't know how you approached the editing, so I can't say much. Mid-day sucks. I'm thinking it would be best to shoot right before the Sun comes down. Plus the color changing leaves will look good in the bg if you guys decide to have trees in the bg.

yea i fucked around with the shades some. its so hard to blend darkness and lightness. i dont like messing with contrast/colors very much because my camera is set to the white balance i like. if i increase/decrease the contrast, it automatically looks really weird to me. but yea mornings and late afternoons are the best times to take pics. figure out a spot.
