Guys we can not use a VDOT lot. All the commuter lots are managed by VDOT. And they will not allow anyone to obtain a permit to hold events like this anymore because of the overwellming demand.

 

i guess i just dont get what the demand is. I mean on the weekends these places are empty well i know the one down here in richmond is.

 

they all are empty. If you read the reason for the permit getting pulled, you would know the answer.

 

The biggest thing is that we have the backing of the Prince William County Police. Plus I will not dive to richmond to hold a meet that WE started, that is non profit. We volunteer our time and money for everyone else as it is already.

We all drove 30 min to get the first location as it was also. Everyone else might have left the lot at 10-10:30pm, but we would be there until after midnight cleaning and getting everyone out, everything torn down, and paying the cops. I personally would do all this after a full day of working, to get home at 1-2 am. (then I would still have to eat dinner and take a shower). So that was always about a 18+ hour day for me every time. I personally (and I only speak for myself) won't pile a drive to richmond on top of all that for ANYONE.

 

Other reason beside yalls permit being pulled were listed. Richmond is a primo spot to hold a even like this; being almost in the center of the state hundreds more people are at the most 2hrs away in all directions. I am more than willing to provide a place for you and your staff to rest and set up a plan if you would consider using Richmond. The event yall put on means so much to so many people as im sure you already know and I believe its full potenial has yet to be tapped. I am willing to offer my services in any way possible to help get this great meet back on its feet even if the 'O6 season is a bust; there is always 'O7 to start is over.

 

So your gonna put us up for free (15 people) and have a place for all our cars and supplies every month, to go to a lot in richmond, that we are not allowed to use because all of the commuter lots in Va are run by VDOT.

Where are you gonna give us a place to rest up? We are all about 30 years old. Most of us have kids. It is to far for the staff, and we will not do it monthly. I for one am not gonna sleep on some kids couch in a place he rents.

Now I don't want to hurt your feelings, I know your trying to help, but just stop making suggestions about things you don't know enough about. You make it seem so easy and so simple, and it's not. You dont get how much goes into an event. How many people are involved. You cant just show up somewhere and it just happens. A single event in richmond is not out of the question, but we will not be having the meet every month down there. No way.

If you want it down there so bad, and it's gonna be that easy to do it..........go for it.

 

I know it takes alot of work to set something like this up and this ''kid'' doesnt rent he owns a house just for the record. I understand that VDOT is not currently a option. My mother works for the local county parks and rec and has many connections on the local and state level. Im just offering my help I knowledge of my area to help keep this great even alive. But for the sake of agruement im going to leave it at that because I dont want the thread to get locked and me banned unnessessicarly. Good luck to the Mega Meet staff in whatever yall do next and thanks for putting on such a awesome event.

 

I don't think "overwhelming demand" has anything to do with it. It's at VDOT's descretion who to give permits too and who not to. Just because they gave a permit for the mega meet doesn't mean they have to give permits for other people to do similar things. I think someone at VDOT just had it on their personal agenda to get rid of a chance for young people to have fun, and found a loophole to make it get canceled. It really is a shame.

 

personally.. I dont think anyone is out to get the young..
I know there are alot politics in doing a meet of this magnitude.
I can appreciate all of the members that put this together I for one do know what it takes and the commitment required..(I did it for 6.5 yrs every weekend not just once a month). Everything was done very well, wish it could have gone on longer.
Its going to be hard to have a place that can support so many ppl. There are places around that can support many. Just have to look around in your area see what is avail like business's etc.
We at brauning Motorsports (brauningmotorsports.com) allow ppl to come hangout on the weekends and meet. We have lots of room as well as we are directly across the street from the colonial beach dragstrip 1/8mile.

 

for people like you and me it might not make sense, but trust me, there's plenty of old people at VDOT that are like that. I have neighbors like that, there are plenty of people around like that. It's no secret that there's plenty of people that like to ruin young people's fun.
