B18C1 GSR Shortblock needs rebuild
Name: Travis
Location: Richmond, VA
Contact: PM
For sale is a recently rebuilt B18C1 GSR shortblock.
B18C1
-ACL Race Bearings
-New gaskets
-B16 pistons on shot peened GSR rods with ARP rod bolts
Condition: Engine was rebuilt about 500 miles ago with new OEM gaskets, ACL race bearings, new rings, and ARP rod bolts. cylinder walls were honed and shelf was resurfaced.
after i put the engine back in the car and got it tuned it was burning some oil. i compression tested the engine and all cylinders were around 180 except for cylinder 3, which was about 170psi. i thought it might be the valve seals so i just replaced those and did a leak down test on the engine in all cylinders at TDC and BDC. at TDC all cylinders were below 5% leak. at BDC all were below 5% except for #3, which was at 20% leak.
so from those results, i found that the cylinder wall in #3 is scratched at the bottom, which is why it's burning some oil and smoking a little.
other than that small problem, the engine runs fine, pulls hard and the block is freshly rebuilt. i just decided to put it up for sale before the wall gets any worse.
if you buy the block, you'll have to bore the cylinders out and get oversized pistons. the scratches aren't deep at all. just hone it out and throw in some low compression pistons and it'll be great for a turbo project.
-one of the headstud threads had a helicoil in it, so i replaced it with a Timesert, which are much more reliable than a helicoil and claim to hold more torque than the OEM threads, and are permanent installations. unlike with helicoil, the head can be taken off and put back on with no problem. i've taken the head off and put it back on multiple times with the Timeserted thread and i've had no problems at all.
check out http://www.timesert.com/index.html for more info about timesert and the advantages over helicoil.
shortblock will include everything BUT:
-pistons/rods (since you'll need to get OS pistons)
-timing belt
-clutch/flywheel
considering the machine work it needs done i feel that a fair price is: $300 obo just need it gone
here are some pictures of the block:
(transmission not included)

Re: Rebuilt B18C1 GSR Shortblock
PM'd you.
BTW, this is one of the first threads ive read in a real long time that has so much detail about the condition of a shortblock. This sounds legit, good luck with your sale Travis.
