FS: Sean Hyland Ford Mustang Cobra, 318ci with 465fwhp
Name: Richard S.
Location: Glen Allen VA
Means of Contact: AIM, PM, E-mail
Description: 1997 Ford Mustang Cobra with 1999 Sean Hyland Cobra 318 ci custom built engine dyno'd 465 fwhp naturally aspirated. (more listed below)
VIN: (available by request)
Miles: 60k approx, 5k on SHM motor
Price: $18k obo, well worth it for engine and suspension work done!
revised: $15,800 obo
Extended description:
This thing is an absolute blast to drive.
Pacific Green 1997 Ford Mustang Cobra with low miles, only about 5000 miles on new engine and transmission. Very rare color. Looks completely stock, which was the intention of this car, and does not look modded even with the hood open. Great car for someone who wants to take this machine to the next stage -- whether as a show car or track car with the great engine.
Sean Hyland custom built two 318 ci naturally aspirated engines in 2001 based on the Ford SVT Cobra 1999 engine for a racing company who then decided to switch to racing Corvettes instead of Mustangs. The other engine was sold to a customer in Texas who put a blower on it and is making incredible power.
These custom engines became the basis for their new line of 5.2L Cobra longblocks which sell for $9500 + core (about $11,500+ total). DOHC stage 2 billet camshafts produce a lopey idle (idles at 1150 rpm) which has been tamed by a custom dynotune from Jerry of Superchips. Dyno before installation was 465 fwhp naturally aspirated. Dyno after installation by Jake Lamotta of Lamotta Performance (of twin turbo Mustang drag race fame) and dyno tune was about 380-403 rwhp with exhaust leaks and catalytic converters.
Some exhaust leaks remain from the Sean Hyland equal length long tube headers with slip fit 3" collectors. Fixing these exhaust leaks will increase performance, obviously. Catalytic converters are burnt (and therefore hollow) inside. Passes visual inspection easily. 3" exhaust back to Borla XR-1 mufflers then stock 2.5" over the axle and then back to 3" stock tailpipes.
Shifter is Pro 5.0 to a Tremec TKO transmission with heavy duty racing clutch suitable for agressive street driving as opposed to race-only clutch. A Lakewood scattershield bellhousing is installed for safety but makes working on the transmission a real chore. Since the car was purpose built for road courses at VIR and Summit Point, there is an aluminum flywheel. Replacing with a balanced steel one would be recommended for drag race use. FMS aluminum driveshaft and 4.10 gears.
Suspension is amazing in this car! Again, since it was built as a road race car to appear as stock, the components are not immediately visible to the casual observer but one peek underneath and you will see lots of improvements. Maximum Motorsports everything except their K-member and coilover kit!
Note that there is a scrape on the passenger front bumper which could be buffed out professionally. Rubbed against vinyl edge of a garage.

Matching color 1998 Ford F150 XLT with gray cloth interior and 3rd door as well as dual axle car trailer with dual electric brakes (tag RACE TOW) may also be available for purchase, but not separate from the vehicle purchase.

Anything short of a ride/drive fails to do this car justice. It's THAT much fun
