Question though 400+ miles a tank? Ru sure?
My wife's 13 Ford Fiesta doesn't even get that kinda miles and its about 40mpg it gets almost 400miles per tank but about 390 or so depends on the week and conditions.

Im pretty sure, its mainly completely highway though. Ive tested it over and over and it usually equals to 400- 350 a tank. I was surprised myself when i first got it
Update: front rotors and pads installed have not had time to do the rears.

Typically the cause of an inaccurate fuel gauge is the fuel sending unit being out of position. The 2g's had a recall and then you took the sending unit out and put it back in, the gauge could read incorrectly.
There are marks on the tank and on top of the fuel pump assembly for lining everything up. Might be worth while to check since it only takes a few minutes.
Not saying this is the problem since there are many other reasons this happen, just something to check.

I believe that is the problem. The fuel pump is new and I'm guessing the previous owner did not line. The sender correctly so the float is getting caught. Because the needle does move when you put gas but only to a maximum of just under the half mark.
