Default Want to paint bike, but what about value?

I want to paint my 03 F4i but I'm scared that if I go to upgrade in a season that its going to lower the value because people are going to think its been wrecked or down. I know when I was shopping for a bike I was a little skeptical of this, and I've seen this idea repeated. Any opinions on this matter?

I honestly dont think it will matter, you gotta think of the here and now along with the future. People might not like it or be skeptical later, but it's your bike now. Do with it as you please.

Ok so now that we've got that out of the way, personally I wouldn't buy a custom painted bike for exactly the reasons you stated. When I'm looking at bikes for sale and see "Custom Paint" the first thing that comes to my mind is "Custom Coverup From My Fuckup."

With that said, for every person like me there's probably 10 people that start drooling when they're cruising Craigslist and see "CUSTOM PAINT" in big capital letters. Some will even be willing to pay more for it. So I say go for it if you want it painted, I really can't see it affecting your sale that much.

buy a set of aftermarket fairings....paint them and either set aside your street fairings or sell them and come out ahead on money. Not worth killing a clean set of fairings for a paint job.

people will think its wrecked or has been down with the custom paint.....it'll be a 6 year old bike by the time you sell it. Unless the painter dicks up the fairings its going to be a matter of a few hundred difference between values

its your bike dude... you may have it for longer, who knows... If i was to paint my perfect fairings on my sv and that's what i really wanted, i wouldnt give a flying crap... but, you can always get some aftermarket fairings (they look better anywyas) if you care so much

The only reason I'm thinking about it is my fairings aren't perfect in the first place, and I found a weekend painter guy who said he'd do 3 layers of paint and 3 of clear coat with the fairings removed for 250 + cost of paint. Thats a pretty good deal!
