so i broke down
Thanks, she will be in my hands Saturday. The seller is meeting me in Charleston. I still have a $900 frame being built for another set up (doing the leaf spring style front end on it). I also have the original owner of my Harley coming down to purchase the bike back (I am losing $2k on it) so that I can build a couple of nice metrics. I am just over the high cost to upgrade and upkeep the Harley.
ya i like your frame, but i'm not trying to get you to build me that same bike you have
how much does the guy you bought that frame off of charge, or how much can i expect to pay for a nice custom frame.
and i've never seen brass so i'll look around and see what it looks like. i was also thinking i'd want a springer seat on it so my asshole doesn't bleed with a rigid frame. honestly i like your bike, just would want a rear fender i can put a seat on, don't really think i'd want to put a springer front on it, and straight drag bars instead of bars that dip down like yours.
what are some option for the front end set up too? thanks

well, you have all sorts of options as far as rake goes. mine's at 38.5 dgrees. stock (like the bike sabotage just bought) is 27 degrees. my springer is the exact same length as the stock xs forks. the rake makes my bike sit ALOT lower than a stock rake front end. there's just so many options. you can use pretty much any harley front end easily (figured out a stupidly easy way to get a harley stem into an XS neck), so that opens up your options alot. personally, i'd do some looking around in mags and online, and take a look at different setups, see what you like, what you don't, that kind of thing. it's alot easier to get a bike built when you come up with a general game plan before you even start, that way you know what you're working towards. alot of people just bolt on random parts, with no real plan, and sometimes it looks good, but alot of times it just looks like... well... a bunch of random parts.
i'm still trying to get ahold of my frame guy. he did my frame for $550, shipped, but i supplied my own axle plates and whatnot. i COULD build the frame myself, but being that this guy has a frame jig, and i don't, i'd have to pass that work along to him. it's just not worth the effort i have to put in to build frames, when he does the same work, guaranteed to be straight, for REALLY good prices, and in a amazingly fast time frame (i got my frame done in less than a week, including time shipping it to him, and shipping back). like i said though, still trying to get in touch with him.
there are several other places i can go thru though, if need be.

awesome. i wanna see that bike!
let me know if you need a hand or anything with the other builds, i'm right around the corner from you. all my other bike building friends are either in jail (long story) or have moved cross country. not a whole lot of people 'round here that like to chop things up themselves. everyone seems to want store bought crap, which is fine i guess, but it's not my style.
hell, if i had a garage, i'd quit both my jobs (i'm gonna catch hell for saying that) and get a buisness lisence so the city would leave me alone, and do nothing but build and sell cheap metric chops all day from home. THAT would be friggin sweet.
no prob. if you want, i have a big ass stack of THE HORSE magazines here, you're more than welcome to borrow and dig thru them. alot of homebuilt and budget stuff in there, including alot of older metrics. that's pretty much the only bike magazine i read any more, lol.
