A friend of mine is interested in getting one, I grew up riding dirt-bikes so I don't know a whole lot about street bikes. He's mainly concerned about reliability, the one he's looking at has 20k miles and he says it seems to be in very good condition as far as cosmetics go. If he decides to check it out, can anyone suggest what to look out for on those type of bikes with that mileage? If the bike hasn't been raced or ridden too hard, how long can he expect to ride it for until it needs serious maintenance? Thanks, everyone.

They are very good bikes, they are fuel injected and if taken care of the run like a bat out of hell. Ive got a friend of mine whose got one and its faster than my 750. He rides his everyday with no problems. As long as you take care of it you should be able to run them forever.

great bikes. Rode one when they were just out. I don't know what the maintenance intervals are but it might be due for a couple hundred dollar one at some point in the near future.

20k miles where the oil was changed and it didn't spend too much time on one wheel or getting beat to hell isn't a big deal. If he keeps up on maintenance and treats it decently he should be able to get a lot of miles on it.....most quality bikes make it to 75k miles or so. There's tons of guys with perfectly good sportbikes out here that have 50-120k milles on them
