no, the 2007 gsxr1000 is the best beginner bike.
Leave it on the 600cc setting until your ready to move up, then switch it to 750cc, and then 1000cc when your ready. Never have to buy another bike again...unless you fuck it up or drop it or something.
....story...I was at a bike meet and asked someone about their 07 gsxr1000 and they said it was their first bike, I was like WTF, then they explained how simple it was to switch between the power settings...pretty cool bike

Now I did know a guy who had a GPZ750 Turbo (yes it's an actual bike made by Kawasaki back in the day) who had three stages on his turbo. The turbo was an aftermarket custom made piece and he was able to adjust the wastegate electronically so he could run anywhere from 180 hp up to 312 hp!! Of course the top setting was only for dyno shootouts...the first one was for the street. The second was if he started to lose!!
I was on killboy a few weeks back and there was a gpz with a turbo very cleanly stuffed right at the front bottom corner of the engine. You could barely see it but you could definitely making out the shiny chrome piping with the generic blue fittings.
crxextreme do not listen to these punks they are just messing with you. Get an ex500 also known as a 500r It is really all the bike you will ever need. I do not think there is any reason going more then 140 in traffic anyways.
I wonder if it would be possible to turbo a 500...

I've seen turbo lawn mowers...so I'm sure a turbo 500 is quite possible.
Seen better vids than this, bbbut this is all I could find right now. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GOaT7pECZCQ

Goodluck finding any bike for $1000.
Some guy down the street from me is selling some old (~early 90s) small cruiser for only $300. Which is a good deal if its running. I can try to get the # if your intersted, but your not looking for cruisers so.......but at your budget I wouldnt be too picky.

And for general knowledge, the 250 does about 98 mph top speed and the 500 does 118 mph. Either is fast enough for the street!
Only way you will know for sure is to put it on the dyno...the speedo is off a lot! I used to think I was hitting around 125 on mine, until I found out I wasn't that close. My 636 shows 180 on a digital speedo when it is really doing 160...which is completely topped out.
Speedos are off, just a plain fact. That's why when people ask how fast I have gone on my bike, I tell them that it is an indicated 150, so probably closer to 135. Besides, wind resistance adds to the difficulty when in triple digits.
So, unless you changed the sprockets or gearing in the transmission, I doubt you have gone over 120 mph...
