Hey man, get Continental tires if you are going to get new tires, the high thread count does not matter as much as the pressure and the diameter. You will go faster with a 135psi tire that is 700ccX23cc then something with a ridiculous build because you will be putting down a smaller patch. They probably changed out your stem to help fit the bike to your weight and the headset spacers. Scott makes a decent bike not a bad purchase. I would weight to get a shimano wheel set though for two reasons 1. You have perfectly good wheels and you will build yourself quicker on those then the set you want 2. Unless you are buying shimano XT or XTR for mountain XC then you should save your money and go for a durace or campi build up custom wheel set.

It is actually the best place to ride. When I rode across country with my dad no side walks for us.

thanks man.. YEA, the tires i was looking at were continentals.. And thanks a lot for the input, and for not hating like everyone else.... lol...... I def see what ur saying with the wheelset...
