lubing my chain
Ride your bike for a little while. Put it on a rear stand if you have one if not get somebody to push the bike, spray thte entire chain and let it sit overnight. Wipe off any extra lube the next morning.
Use Repsol chain lube! I've used several different lubes.. but Repsol is my favorite now. Very little sling, and it goes on CLEAR!
Get the chain warm by riding it a bit.. then spray it on the chain, and make sure to cover the entire chain by rolling the bike forward or putting it on a rear stand as mentioned before.
...oh, and make sure to clean the chain regularly too. I use WD-40 and old t-shirts..

It really doesn't matter what you use as long as the chain stays lubricated.. I know some people that swear by nothing other than some WD-40 on a rag as far as lubrication, but personally.. I'd rather cough up $5-6 for a big can of reputable chain lube. I did swear by BelRay Super Clean for the longest time, and actually sort of liked the color residue it left on my stock chain as stupid as that sounds.. lol. It sort of leaves a blue/white film on the chain, but god.. that's a pain in the ass to clean up if you overspray onto the chain guard, wheel, sprocket, etc.. and it does throw a bit more than the Repsol seems to. I couldn't be happier with the switch, and am looking forward to showing off the new gold chain in the near future.
there are 2 different style chain lubes, the oily stuff and the wax based stuff. i have used both and they work just as good as the other.
like stated, warm up bike, lube chain. just make sure you dont get any on that rear tire.
