Re: Loose Steering??
steering dampener, take it out bleed it and fill it with thicker weight oil. Me and my friend just did it to my 05 gixxer 600 and it is really nice, we used 20 weight fork oil.

Re: Loose Steering??
what friend was that? ;D any ways yeah like he said the
you will need
a seringe(sp) to refill it
a 5mm allen key
a 10mm socket to undo the cover and
a 14mm open end to undo the nut on the lil bar that goeas through the actuall dampner
and (i used) 20wt fork oil about 8.99 at cycle world
and a very small allen key to undo the drain take it all off undo the lil bolt then slid e the bar in and out to pump the old oil out then refill it will slowly moving the rod back and forth to get all the air bubbles out after you dont see any more put it all back togehter. this will also make it stiffer than stock and feels really nice and alot safer and its about 300$ cheaper than an after market one.

Re: Loose Steering??
deff. sounds like the damper, but if it blew, i have to wonder why. they don't just leak for no reason. refilling it may help for a short time, but if the seals are shot you'll quickly be back where you are now. unfortunately you can order rebuild parts from suzuki, just a new damper, which is more expensive than a better adjustable aftermarket damper.
check your steering stem bearings too.

Re: Loose Steering??
i wouldn't think my share of a few wheelies here and there and just riding around this area would cause it to blow...is there any way i'll know when i go into to replace the oil if the seals are blown or is it just a trial and error thing?
steering stem bearings just checking for smoothness and anything else?
thanks for the help...it's much appreciated...gotta be comfortable for the weather comin' up!!

if its blown you should have fluid on the shaft that the seal goes around. Get a paper towel and see if you can wipe any off. I can't figure out why it would fail suddenly though as I have fork seals on one side that are slowly leaking and they have been slowly going for over a year with minimal effect

Re: Loose Steering??
i would just go to change it and see if there is fluid in there it cant hurt to try. then the thicker oil can make it stiffer and even leak slower if it actually is leaking.
