a little assistance please
Ok,
I'm about to begin my squid status (or hope to) but I have a few problems.
I am in line for picking up at 1997 Yamaha Seca-2 for about $1000. This will be my first bike, and since i have some lower back issues, this turns out to be the best bike for my buck.
Here is the issue:
1. I'll be PCS-ing in about 3 months. The weather is going to be off and on shit here in Cali (read monsoon season) for the next 3 months or so. But I really want to ride. After that I'll be packing up and heading to Maryland till August. Then I'm headed to Italy...mota bella.
2. I have some bills that can be paid off but this isn't the real issue.
3. I could wait till I get to Maryland and purchase a bike, instead of now, but then I lose out on 3 months of off and on riding.
4. I could just wait till I get to Italy to ride...and then probably die.
questions time: Should I purchase a bike that I won't be able to use, but will be able to take with me for 9 months, but not with me to italy (because they ship bikes in house hold goods only) or should I wait till I get to italy?
Now, I am a novice rider and readily admit that. I've taken the BRC course about 9 months ago, which is the first and last time I had ridden. I want to get a little more experience together before I head to Italy, where there aren't any rules and I could get really hurt by not knowing what I am doing.
My dad is an MSF instructor and he's urging me to do it. But it might be a waste of time and effort.

Re: a little assistance please
honestly, having ridden in italy, any and all experience you can get before you go there is a good thing. Beautiful riding, but those fools are crazy!
beisdes, in august you could probablt sell the seca for what you have in it before you left for italy.
I gotta ask, since you're out that way, is it really year round riding weather (not counting rain, just temp wise) in socal? I've been pondering a one-way cross country ride, and I've never been out that way.

If it wasn't raining this week, it would probably be about 40+ weeks straight of perfect riding. And I'm not kidding.

Re: a little assistance please
so I talked it over with the wife, since that was another thing I should have added (yeah, my nuts are on the wall, she looks at them from time to time) and she said she really wants me to get this thing. I also said I could probably sell it for a grand when I got to maryland (just leave it on the base for a week or so, it will get some serious looks) and she said she was down.
so...if the weather is nice tomorrow, I'll be the next dangerous thing on the road. (who am I kidding, I'm doing the speed limit and acting like a pussy).

.75 carat diamond earrings from thailand + lots of oral sex (on her) + cooking her favorite meal + buying her shoes= doing whatever you want.
