like skr00z mentioned, AGV makes pretty good stuff for not alot of money, I'm sure you could get her a leather jacket from them for under $350 easy... actually i've got an alpinestars girls jacket that i might be willingn to sell fairly cheaply if it would happen to fit your girl... also www.newenough.com has alot of last years colors and things on discount, or i'm sure people on ebay are selling close out items for low price.... when i was working at dealerships all i ever bought was close out gear, you could get a $500 leather jacket for like $150, it was last years color or style but who gives a shit?

as for textile being good for cold i'll third that, my one piece winter suit is textile since no one really makes leather winter gear, like you said it would probably be too stiff and a full winter suit with insulation would probably weigh as much as a cow

My advise is go to a shop and try on jackets, find out what you like, then buy it online. Cycle Gear has some decent deals sometimes, and there might be a store near you...they put one here in Hampton Roads, and I have to fight with the wheel everytime I ride by it!

In my opinion, I do love my First Gear jacket...has the liner for the cold, body armor, etc. I know it held up well in a 15 mph crash. This isn't a full leather jacket, but kind of a hybrid. It is made of 450 denier ballistic Hypertex nylon with full weight 1.2 - 1.3 thick leather panels. I also got the pants to go with it, made the same way and zip into the jacket. I think I paid around $450 for both brand new...so I am sure you could find them for a lot less!
I also have a Rocket textile jacket...if it is cooler than 70 degrees, I freeze in it! But it doesn't have a liner either.
