Default Good bike for 3K?

Im really interested in getting a bike. This would be my first bike, and i'd like something thats atleast a 600. What are good models/years etc? Also, where is a good place to look for them? Thanks in advanced.

well, since u said ur lookin for a beginner bike, at least 600cc, i would go with a yamaha r1, because 600s are very, VERY slow, and everyone must admit, yamaha does make the slowest bikes. Either that, or a or cbr1000rr, actually, scratch that the 1000rr might be a lil too powerful, so if you go with the honda get the 954rr, those 46cc's make a huuuge difference when it comes to a Honda. But no matter what, dont get a suzuki gsxr1000 or kawi 10r, those are the fast ish, dont fuck with em if your a beginner.

ebay and craigslist also have some bikes from time to time. At that price you could also have a nice newer low mileage katana which is another bike thats great to start out on that you can grow into like the sv650
