Default Getting a title

Alright, here's the deal. I have been offered a '03 R1 with some mods for $3000 bucks, the only things is, the guy said i would have to come up with my own title. IE he aint got one.

How would i go about getting the bike titled? I realize this is a potentially stolen bike, but other friends of mine have vouched that whether it is stolen or not, the guy has had the bike for quite some time.

What would i need to do upon purchasing the damn thing?

PM me the VIN and I will tell you if it's stolen or who actually owns the bike.

You can swap out the frame with one maybe from ebay that has a clean or salvage title. I would be a little leary regardless of how long he has had it. Is he the original owner? I would buy with caution once Buttercup finds out if it is stolen or not. Good luck.

yeah definitely get the vin number before you make the deal. if it did come back stolen , it would be kinda shady, but that ebay frame swap would work, but youd have to live with your conscience, and you know the saying.. "what goes around comes around".

Hahaha, yeah, but my conscience would say that whoever's bike was stolen problably collected insurance money off it anyhow, so no harm done right? Not to mention, i wouldnt have be the one that stole it, and im still paying out of pocket

I believe it's a crime to purchase stolen property, and if not, if it ever comes out that it is stolen, they will take the bike, just to give you a heads up.

it is a crime to poses stolen property. but if it is a clean bike i think all you need is a bill of sale from him and the vin to get a new title. that is as long as the titles clean. ie no leans or anything against it.
