Getting a bike!
I cancelled my order for a new cbr 600 4fi today. 
I'm looking for a new bike for first time. Only other bikes I have experience with are 80cc and 125cc dirt bikes. I guess it's better then no experience. I was thinking a katana would be a good first bike? I would like a yzf r6 or honda cbr 600 f4i/rr but those are all near 100-120hp. To much power for first street bike!
Need imputs please. Looking for a bike around 5k or so. Fairly new too.

No way man... dont go with the katana, you want one of the other bikes. If price isnt too much of an issue then go with either the Zx6R, CBR RR, R6, GSXR 600, or the sv650. My first bike was a F4 and it was a great bike. you can get any of the afformentioned bikes a few years old for around what you are lookin to spend. Dont slight yourself. Keep it a 600 or 750, JUST DONT BUY THE KATANA!
. Its my first bike, and once you get used to it, its a breeze to control (handling wise).

I wouldn't reccomend the F4i or the RR for a FIRST BIKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You sound like you have a level head.......................go with a USED Katana/SV650 so you can sell it after a year without loosing an arm and a leg on it. THEN get what you want.
You have the right idea. Better to get what you'd feel comfortable on than get what someone else tells you 'cause it's "cool"........................
