Yeah, 50cc's top out right around 45-55 (usually 4 stroke at 45 and 2-stroke is higher), all dependent on gearing of course.

Larger-displacement scoots can definitely go on the interstate (Silverwing, Burgmann, Morphous, Reflex, Helix, even Elite 80, etc).

Bigger scoots tend to require motorcycle licenses though, so then it kind of becomes a question of.....why?


At any rate, for anyone who knows DC, I rode my Ruckus from Germantown MD to Rosslyn VA on Saturday, so you CAN get around on it. I'd say the drive took about 45 mins longer round-trip than it would've in a car over the same route.

 

UPDATE:

I'm buying a scooter now. The new place I'm moving to in California is very scooter friendly so I'm getting one for riding around town. Still have the bike for getting to work but don't want to haul it out to ride 6 blocks to 2 miles to the gym/dinner/stores


think I'm going to get a Zuma or Ruckus unless I can find a cool vespa to restore

My lady and I just purchased one(china brand) retro 49cc scooter online and can't wait for it to come in.
Does anyone know how much of a difference it'll make if i buy the big bore kit for it to upgrade it to a 75cc and getting larger piping for the exhaust and maybe a intake/high performance filter.

Also its going to be a theme bike so i hope yall dig it and will post pics of progress.
