Re: Does anyone winterize there bikes?
i just ride it, or if it gets too bad outside i start it like every 3 days. i know u have to drain the fuel system(the carbs if it's not FI) or put fuel stabilizer in it, oil the chain, it wouldn't hurt to put some kinda oil on the rotors but you have to make sure it's compatible with the system, but to make sure just ask at a bike shop, they'll b happy to sell u what u need.

Re: Does anyone winterize there bikes?
Common misconception here................
Starting a bike without riding it is actually is worse for the bike than letting it sit for 4 months straight; mainly the battery.
A bikes battery won't recharge at idle. It will only get drained. You need to be above a certain rpm range (different for different bikes) for it to start charging.
It doesn't get cold enough here to warrant an actual winterization of a motorcycle. I don't have a garage, so I cover it and that's about it. On a day that's not too freezing I may take it for a ride.

Re: Does anyone winterize there bikes?
i just put coolant in it since i run water/water wetter the rest of the year... make sure my tank is always full, helps stop condensation... put it on stands just to take some weight off the tires and suspension... plug in the exhaust, mice like to live in them... but i wouldn't put oil on the rotors, if you've ever gotten wd40 or anything on them it takes a few miles before they will work at all, i'd clean/lube the chain like you said, i wash it, try and have fairly fresh oil in it, put the batter on a battery tender... but anytime its 50ish or above i ride it so its not like mine sits for 9 months straight

Do really think 5 minutes of idle with the choke on is doing any good?
Take the advice or not.
You do the bike a disservice by doing that bullshit than if you were to just let it sit there for 4 months UNTOUCHED and throw the battery on a trickle charger over night the day before you wanna take it out for the season.

Re: Does anyone winterize there bikes?
or if you don't have a charger just bring it inside atleast, it will last longer that way than in the freezing cold
like he said with the winters we get here its not that big of an issue

I turn off the fuel on the petcock and try and ride it once a month. If it was going to sit for 6 months or something then I might do something but 3 months isn't that long
