chop suey
been busy getting the chopper ready, here's a before shot, and a shot from today. should be all said and done for under $800. i have to get this bike done for a show in the very near future.
and chino, sorry for the delay on your bike, trying to time everything right, and the time i had this morning went out the window when i realized it was pouring rain outside. i'm getting ready to start the shock swap in a few minutes, so it'll be done soon, i promise.

Re: chop suey
my old cafe racer with gsxr suspension, mono-shocked rear end, etc... had about $500 in this one, but ALOT of my time went into it. belongs to another dragva member now.
btw, that's $800 in parts, not including labor. it does pay to be able to do the work yourself. if i was to sell my bikes, they'd be ALOT more than just the sum of the parts that went into them.

some of my old bikes, haven't updated it in years though, guess i should do that sometime soon. there's old pics of my 750 gixxer with the 1200 motor in it, but they were taken before i did the undertail exhaust and converted to renthal bars.

Re: chop suey
actually, me and my friend are thinking of building a few to sell. no idea when that may be, or what the price is, it's just an idea at this point. the hard part is finding clean donor bikes to cut to hell. both my chopper and my cafe racer are xs650's ('76 and '81) they're all over the place, but we prefer to wait for smoking deals, since the only thing we really use off them is the front half of the frame and the motor. i paid $350 for the one in the first pic. it was pretty decent when i got it. hell, i took it home, unloaded it off the trailer, replaced the broken clutch cable, and was riding it around the nieghborhood. now i have a BIG pile of parts from it that won't be getting used.
pretty much any 70's or early 80's bike can be chopped fairly easily, some are just easier than others.
there are places online that will build you a frame, to your specs, for $500 or so. i refuse to spend that kinda money, so we build our own frames, but even someone without that kind of ability could build one for less than $2000 or so. that beats the helll out of the $30k-$80k that all these "specialty" bike shops sell, and it's alot more original.
have you noticed that since the discovery channel started being "chopper tv" that alot of the chops you see riding around tend to look pretty much the same??
