for your first bike i wouldn't really worry, the difference isn't enough to make it a deciding factor

but i prefer FI, and there really isn't any advantage to carburation hence why everything is going to digital fuel injection... it adjusts better to different altitudes and climates, if you say put a exhaust on it, it will compensate alot better with out tuning than carbs will... way easier to start on cold mornings, better fuel economy... if you do modify the bike its easier to just download a new map than remove the tank, air box, carbs, install and fine tune a jet kit in a carb... also carbs can get dirty or gummed up and stuff where you hardly see that with fuel injection

you asked the pro's so those are them but please don't take it as carbs are bad, if the bike is in good condition and you don't keep changing mods on it which is how you first bike should be anyways then you won't even see a difference between the two

Not true, not true. It would be a good idea to get that done; but you can always do it yourself or just run a good cleaner through 'em and they should be fine as long as it didn't for more than a few months. Trust me, I know.

FI is great if you plan on modding the bike. If you're gonna keep it relatively stock carb is fine too.

Really it's a non issue now anyways as all high end sport bikes are FI. I'm not sure if you can find a sportbike made in 04 or newer that is carb'd...................

Suzuki started theirs in '01 (atleast thats true for the gsxr's, busa im not sure). Yamaha's came FI in '03 (i know that for sure with the R6, im pretty sure it may be the same with the R1 but id have to research it). Kawas i know nothing about or honda

edit** Looks like R1's had FI in '01+
