I just got a 200cc ninja replica "moped" its the same size as a normal crotch rocket but just a 200cc motor and a much lighter frame. Its brand new so i need to break the motor in, whats the furthest on the throttle i should go when breaking it in and how long does it take to break in? thanks in advance to who ever can help

 

if it doesnt have a tach then just never push it more then half..if it does have a tach then never push it pass 3-4 rpms? for 400-500 miles

 

everyone has thier own opinions on break in. most manufacturers reccomends 500 miles of easy riding, change the oil, then have at it. usually i do 50 miles of easy riding to break everything in, change the oil, then ride it like you stole it. Alot of people swear that doing it that way gets better performance from the motor. i'm sure if you dug around there internet you could find some proof of that.

most of the wear on any internal parts is going to be in the first 50-100 miles, so the most important thing is to get the oil changed asap, as all those lil metal particles from the break in aren't good to have floating around inside your motor.

 

Is your bike a Lifan?

it has a 12,000 rpm tach that starts to redline at 8500

 

maybe im alone here but I have been reading more recently that going all out on the motor breaks in seals faster and stops anything from warping due to breaking in slowly.. i've researched it and seen alot of people sharing the opinion as well so I dunno.. :-x

 

Break in the tire, not the motor....ride it how you are gonna ride it

 

yea from what ive searched ive seen the same , but i did that with an old goped not on purpose but i just didnt know about breaking a motor in , but what happened was about after a quarter tank the screws holding on the exaust popped out and i could never get the screws in , i bought new ones and even tried loctite but them popping out could have been caused by not tightening the screws when i got it from UPS

 

yup, like i said, 50 miles to seat the rings, change the oil, then ride it like you stole it.
