bike won't stay started help!!!!
hello i have a 99 gsxr 600 that won't stay started. i went to ride it the other day, i let it warm up for a while, took it around the block then it just died on me. and now when you try to start it up it has a rough idle and i have to have the carbs all they way open in order for it to stay running. what would be some of the things to check for?
just looking for some input on what to expect to fix first. thanks
- bad gas
- vaccum leak
- spark plugs need to be replaced

I'm not an expert, but it could be a few things. I had a similar problem on mine and it ended up being an air/fuel mixture problem. You may need to have the carbs tuned.

Re: bike won't stay started help!!!!
sounds like a wierd question, but has the bike been painted or anything? can't count how many time's i've seen painters plug up tank vents lines. There's a big line running from the bottom of the tank to... nothing. find that line and see if you can blow thru it. Sounds like the tank is vaccuum locking. No fuel.. no run....
but yeah, there's a hundred other things it could be, just easy to start with the simple stuff.
If it is clogged, you can either clear it out, or take the gas cap off and drill a tiny hole in the tank to vent it, under the cap, preferrably on the right side of the cap, so it won't drain rainwater in if you have to park the bike outside and it gets wet.
