Default bike shops near richmond or nova?

i'm looking at getting a bike soon and i just got a phone call from a guy selling a bike for a pretty good deal, claims to have tons of experience building bikes, recently cleaned carbs and this and that etc, says bike will basically be in like new condition, and he is also doing a custom paint job on it and its a 96 gsx-r,= for around 3500, which seems like a really good deal, anyone know of any shops around richmond area or nova that you would recommend taking to bike to to have it checked over? or is 3500 for a gsx-r in great condition + new paint job not really low?

For 500 bucks more you could find a much newer bike (01+) with better performance

I was thinking the same thing. It wouldn't be hard to locate a 600cc sport bike in the $4k range that is newer.

ya i've seen a couple of the newer ones, but i was thinking as a new rider some of the newer 600s may be just to much for me, i know alot of riders frown on starting on 600s period, what does everyone think about this? plus i'd really love to have a gsx-r only because of all the great things i hear about them, which is as usual, probably pretty biased, and i know another 500 aint that much but that 500 would probably cut into my gear money and i wouldn't wanna end up going cheaper on gear to save money

3500 for a 1996 GSXR? You would be very dumb to pay that much for a 1996--paintjob or none.

I agree with it being to much. And for a newer 600 being to much for you. I've been riding 1.5 monthes and have rode 4200 miles on my new 06 gsxr 600. I feel i could have gone with a 750 atleast. But everyones different, i thinkg you will be fine with an 01 or so if your only looking to spend 4k or so
