50 throttle sticking (I know, repost)
So, I get my 50 back from the shop and have to adjust the idle on it so it won't cut off. It worked fine. In fact, too fine. My bike will start instantly on the first kick, but whenever I give it gas, the gas keeps going and the idle won't go back to normal. It only does this when it's in neutral. The problem is though, that I have to hold the front brake as hard as I can to keep it from 12 o'clocking when I shift into first. Once it's in gear then the idle is fine. Help?
your carb isn't set right, and niether is your clutch. the idle drops when you put it in gear because the clutch is dragging. it loads the motor a lil bit and makes the idle lower. to compensate, you adjusted the idle higher, and that's what's making it jump so bad when you put it in gear. first things first, get the clutch adjusted right, that's your main problem. after you get the clutch adjusted right, you'll have to lower the idle back down. the idle shouldn't change when you put it in gear. you'll always get a slight jump when you put it in gear, but it shouldn't be anything that you'd need to hold the brake to keep from flipping it.
the clutch is easy to adjust. on the side cover, there's a nut sticking out with a flat head screw in the middle. loosen the nut, and screw the screw out a bit, then screw it back in until it JUST feels resistance, then back it out 1/4 turn, and screw the locknut tight while you hold the adjustment screw with the screwdriver. just make sure it's the screw that's gatting the resistance, and not the locknut bottoming out on the case. you'll see what i mean when you adjust it.
the carb is another story. what, if any motor mods are you running right now? stock air filter? k&n? exhaust?
