Ok I'm pretty sure it's normal but my buddy is being a bit overparanoid. His bike has this slight ticking at idle. The ticking goes away as he accelerates. I think his injectors just have a loud pulse. Isn't this normal?

 

could need a valve adjustment. how many miles are on the bike and when was the last adjustment?

The bike has around 5K miles. He just got it, used. AFAIK, it's never gotten a valve adjustment. The ticking isn't loud at all, definitely not the sound of metal tapping metal. I think it's normal, my CBR did it, my boy's R1 does it too. I suppose I'll recommend a valve adjustment.

 

i think he's just overly paranoid. all bikes make noise. some just make more/ different noise than others.

I have an '03 636, it is very normal, they all do it it's a kawasaki thing. It's the valves, it will do it at idle and at very slow speeds.

Agree they all do it, my 04 636 does it and it had me all kinds of freaked out when I first got it. But I soon came to learn it is just what the Kawasaki's do..

 

Yep, Blackxplorer on another thread said that Kawi 636 valves tick but it's normal so my boy is just def. paranoid.
Here she is. Has tinted screen, Yoshi TRS slip, Undertail kit, LED's turn signals tapped into the rear pegs, Axle nut license plate frame, just needs a power commander.

 

i'm trying right now to get a red one from up north. chrome rims, swing arm, and wind screen. if i get it, i will have to hit your boy up i'm hoping i get it. tell him i said nice bike
