my car idles weird. kinda like the fan is cutting on and off but its not. i replaced my plugs, cleaned the idle control valve, changed air filter, etc. I think it must be the MAF thats dirty because the subaru oem air filters always seem to have a ton of oil on them so i think over time its just gotten dirty. what do you use to clean mafs? brake cleaner? throttle body cleaner? it obviously has to be something that doesnt leave a residue and doesnt attack plastic. im just not sure what.

Do not touch the damn wires of the MAF, whatever you do. Here's a decent article on how to clean the MAF of a Ford F-150 which may be of some help to you. Brake cleaner will work, but as you know, it does not play well with plastic.

oiled are filters seem to mess with some mafs(i did with mine bad). use and intake cleaner or electronics parts cleaner seems like a good idea.
