In pharmacology all drugs have generic names. Tylenol
is Acetaminophen, Advil is Ibuprofen, and so on.
The FDA is looking for a generic name for Viagra and
announced today that they have settled on:
Mycoxafailin
Other names considered were:
Mycoxaflopin, Mydixadrupin, Mycoxnoworkin and
Mydixarizen.

the generic name of viagra would be sildenafil citrate. generic names of drugs are the chemical compound that the the active ingredient is composed of. the trade name, viagra in this case, is just something that the marketing department conjured up to promote advertising.
kinda like the saying "the purple pill". most people think of Prilosec. well prilosec came off its patent recently so the marketing dept of AstraZeneca came up with 2 very smart ideas.
1. patent the saying "purple pill". this allowed them to reformulate their current prilosec drug into its free-base form now known as "nexium". so when you go to the doc and ask for the "purple pill" you now get a script for nexuim.
2. they proved that the old prilosec formulation was safe to the public and released for OTC purchase that way customers could just buy the old Prilosec, thus taking profit away from generic drug manufacturing companies.
