matt at river city tattoo in richmond did mine. excellent work, clean shop, great prices, very friendly staff.
5 stars all around. very much looking forward to getting some more work done by him when i get back.

Yeah, tattoos aren't somethig you shop around for.
I went to Graffiti Ink in Mechanicsville. Rex did mine. Heard a lot of good stuff about him. Will go back to him when I want more.

As a few have said, you don't want to get a bargain when you get a tattoo. That shit will be there for the rest of your life, get exactly what you want and pay whatever it cost, not what you have. I thought my artist was a little steep @ $100 per hour, but it was well worth it.
A few have mentioned him, but jessesmithtattoos.com or kaoticenzymes.com are both of Jesse Smith's websites. He bounces around where he works at alot, but he is a great artist. He did my entire back, and I don't regret it one bit. Every time I take my shirt off people hound me about my backpeice... who did it?, how long did it take?, did it hurt? Not a single person that has seen it has said anything bad about it, and I always get the "that's the most realistic tattoo I've ever seen".
He has gotten bigger and bigger though. Now he flys out to Japan, Cali, and places like that every few months to do work on people. The last time I talked to him, he was booked for months in advance and I believe he said he didn't even want to take on new jobs unless it was at least a few hours (I'd say he probably means 5 or more).
Wherever you get your tattoo at (anyone reading this, OP probably doesn't need a tattoo anymore, lol), just make sure you're happy with the artist's work first. Money should be the last thing on your mind when getting a tattoo.
