Get a damn good resume, print it on high quality paper (24# preferred). Have an "availability chart" that shows with 1/2 hour blocks of days and times you are able to work. Keep in mind, these hiring managers are trying to adjust to students schedules when hiring students and will be trying to fill in scheduling gaps. Got a need for a cook Monday 4p-close and Tuesday noon-4? The chart would easily show which shift positions you could work.
Show up in business casual for the types of positions you are applying, and ask to speak to the manager during off-peak times. Introduce yourself and make yourself memorable. The manager is hiring a person so meeting the person hiring is essential.
