Excuse my ignorance, do you get any power gains from having pipes/headers thermal coated normally? Or is it just to keep it cooler, aesthetically and temperature wise?

A reduction in underhood temperature, and a slight increase in exhaust velocity from reduced thermal dissipation. Whether those give any kind of noticeable performance gains on a naturally aspirated production car is very hard to pin down.
