If your leaning towards a WRX I would suggest spending a little more than 8k. If you find one for that price it was probably bastardized and has been modded to hell and back with super high miles. Just a quick tip when looking at WRX's. Look at the fuel rails and check to see if the green clips/brackets are still there. If they are chances are the injectors were never changed and it never had a bigger turbo on it.

They are around, just gotta look for them. There's two for sale around my home town, both 6 speed camaro's for $8300. One has like 70k miles and the other I think 82k.

Mustangs are out because I'm not a big ford fan. I like vr4's but for a car that will end up with frequent auto-x use it's just way too heavy and eats brakes/trannies. At this point I'm leaning toward a sr20 240 or a wrx. Part of me still likes the idea of a LS1 F-body, but I've already owned 2 F-bodies and I sorta want something different.
or possibly a bmw 325e and drop a sbc in it.....or i might sell you my fox

A Miata would be cool, but he said he was looking for something faster than a supra.
I would say either a 1g dsm, or an s13...but to be honest you've got a lot of options and it really comes down to what you like, and what you want to do with it. ie drag, drift, auto X, or a quick car you can cruise around in.
