vdub Q's
to all you vdub owners.....
Do you guys get fuct with as much as riceburners?
what are the specs on the gti, vr6, and if there are any more, for the golf. (internals and all, i.e. compression ratio, dogc/sohc, etc)
any other valuable info would be nice as well, ride quality etc.
thanks

I not only don't get fucked with but I rarely get a second look even when I am trying to fuck with someone else. But my car looks like a stock econo box so maybe that is why.
As for specs
it is a 15 degree 6 cyl. so it is kind of like a stagered 6 with a single head.
there are now 2 versions pre 2002 are 12 valve and about 174hp, 181 tq stock, post 2002 are 24 valve and something like 200hp and 190 something tq.
not the highest numbers ever but there is big tq through the entire curve wich makes for extreemly smooth power almost all the time.
oh and there is nothing like the sound of a VR6 at WOT...
one last thing I still get 28 mpg on the freeway with a chip/intake/exaust... not too shabby for a 6

Don't count out old school !! The A2 GTi was the hottest car on the euro lineup for a long time ! It is a well balanced blend of tq, hp, and good handling . A2s can be modded and engine swapped to be complete monsters ( see Van in his VR6 A2 ) or can be suspension tuned to have more finess than Christy Brinkley at a photoshoot in Figi ! Here is the linup and characteristics . 8V = old school , low hp , reliable & easy to work on . 16V = old school , moderate hp , not so reliable but easy to work on . 2.0 16V = the true essence of old school , nice hp , what reliability ? G60 = old school , supercharged , fuck reliable - I wanna go fast ! , easy to add mucho hp , but rare . ABA (2.0) = new school , low hp , very reliable , add turbo or s/c for some balls . 1.8T = new school , fast outta the box , easy to get high hp from a chip , a few probs AKA coil packs . VR6 = new school , nice sound , hi hp&tq , add a s/c or turbo for HUGE hp ( and huge $$ ) , expensive to mod . TDI = new school , low hp but nice tq , can be modded by chip for some crazy tq , mega good mileage !
This is just what I think ( all opinion , not documented facts ) but it pretty much breaks it down !

My DUB is pretty quick for a 1.8ltr 8v CIS. I have a couple of mods as you can see in my sig. I steadly walked several 2003 civics. I just hate it when everybody thinks that they have the right to talk down on dubs. They are truely very good cars.
If you gotta get the ABA ( 2.0 8V ) , there are always upgrades ! Neuspeed makes a quality charger . ( match that and the 2.6in pulley !! ) for about $2700 and there is a complete , non-intercooled turbo kit out there for about $2500 . I will always say spend more $$ on the better engine ( 1.8T or VR6 ) if you can afford it , but if not ... those are some nice upgrades !
