This is the opposite of what I've seen. Their values are dropping very fast. 2 yrs ago a stock '02 WRX would have gotten $10-11k. Now, $7k.

You can usually negotiate a better price from a dealer/seller further away from major cities.

I'm amazed at how high WRX prices are. When the 2009's came out with the engine upgrade, you could buy a 2008 sedan stick shift for around $22K new.
When the '09s came out dealerships were selling leftover '08s for $17-18k new.

That completely depends on the milage, ect. 2 years and the 30+ thousand miles that goes along with it (assuming it's a DD) sorta has that effect on any car. I was referring to the fact that assuming it's got decent miles and is in good shape, they pull good money. 8 months ago I was offered 13k for my 02 with 110,000 miles. Provided their taken care of, yes they hold theor value pretty well.

ESPECIALLY STIs. 04s with decent miiles still pull 18-20k

Yeah, I never went in to negotiate a deal, but I saw them listed for $22K in newspaper ads. Wagons typically listed for $19K new. Average list price now is mid-20's. Hence why the prices now seem ridiculous.

Prices are no higher now than they have ever been except for the STI which went up with the GR models. I bought my original '02 WRX for $24,500 brand new (got them to throw in a exhaust for it). Wagons have always been listed about a $1,000 less than sedans. When a new WRX sells for $19k, it's because it's a left over.

There is one exception. I remember Saab dealerships trying to ditch their 9-2X stockpiles when the GM-Subaru partnership ended. A brand new one could have been had for $15,000. For the turbo ones, not the N/A ones.

I had a 06 WRX and I now have an 04 STi. I got my STi with 60k miles for less than that. You deffinately need to find a better deal. I also have a boosted Integra LS, the Subaru's are MUCH better daily drivers.
