SRS unit on a 96 Honda Accord - Help
Ok.. so i have a 96 Honda Accord Lx as my daily driver.
Took it in to the dealership, They tell me the SRS unit has gone bad.
And that it will need to be replaced. $700
So... my question is ... does this sound right?
And does anyone know where I can get a cheaper replacement?
I don't really care if it's used. But to spend another $700 bucks on a old car is crazy.
I've never even seen an SRS unit... that i know of.
Honda Techs... please help.
Any help is appreciated.

sorry im not a honda tech, but i might have a answer..if im wrong sorry. unless hondas have another system with the name SRS.
on american cars 89 or so and newer witch i think goes for any car sold in america, have srs, witch stands for . Supplemental Restraint System .it will say srs, on steering wheel and maybe on pass dash. if really new on doors or jam.
thats where the airbags are located. the srs unit is what activates the airbags in the event of a crash. so you could possibly get one from a junkyard from a car that had been hit in the rear.
if the car drives fine, and you dont mind a bump on your head from the streering wheel.. dont worry about it...lol..

Thanks.. yes i did... immediately after I posted this.. and came up with some of the same links you did.
Thanks anyways.
Found out that Honda used 3 different manufacturers for the same unit over the period of 94-97. So I need to match the unit Model #. Because they aren't all compatible.
I guess I posted before I searched...
Thanks
Brought it in to the dealership for a CV replacement. SRS light and state inspection.
I figured 70 bucks to install a cv wasn't bad.. So instead of me wasting my time.
The SRS light problem caught me off guard.
And I did know what SRS was... I had just never seen a SRS unit before.

with this code check your battery first, if its weak this can cause this code to set srs unit internal failure due to low battery voltage, if so replace or charge your battery and clear the code. if srs is still comes on for srs internal failure then next step is to replace the srs unit.. ask for service bulletin or service news on what srs unit you need for your vehicle or you can just check your srs unit serial/part number
