if i were in your shoes and my parents were going to help me to buy a supercar..i wouldnt turn down the offer either..and nobody else on here would..me? i drive a 7,000 dollar vehicle that i paid cash for and yes...im jealous lol so is everyone else on here..they just show it more efficiently by putting you down lol..nice car though...TRACK IT!!! lol
i wouldn't say people are jealous.. just because they don't like the car it doesn't mean they are envious.. i for one am not envious at all.. it's cool dude has a viper... but im sure i'm not the only person here who has never wanted to have a viper..
anywho.. enjoy the car man.. all that horsepower has to be fun.

It seems as though Dodge has been underrating the power/torque numbers for their Vipers. They claim 490 ft-lb of engine torque for a new GTS, but chassis dynos have shown a consistent 450 ft-lb of rear-wheel torque. Add in 13 % for "driveline losses" (the power lost between the motor's flywheel and the rear wheel due to gear friction, rotational inertia, etc), and a stock GTS engine is making almost 520 ft-lb of peak torque!

I guess the Mustang Mafia is alive and well in VA. But all playing aside, I know what my car has done in the past and I'm done w/ this thread.

OK BEFORE I START, IM NOT DOGGIN ANY CARS
Ok, a gear swap is a "modification". Any car will make different numbers with different modifications.
What is the appeal of a viper ?
Its sure not the power it puts out. I can name a few cars that put out the same power, cost ALOT less, and still have 'sex appeal'.
Is it because its domestic that people flock to it? "Oh wow, a domestic company made a sportscar!" - true the domestic sportscar market is kinda lacking, but for that matter so is the JDM. Euro is where the true sportscars are being made these days. Hell they don't even have speed limits in some places over there.
I own an 04 pontiac gto, and a 97 eclipse gst. I am on both sides of the fence domestic/import. I don't give a damn who gets my money as long as I like the car. And for all you people who say "well my money needs to stay in the US" - alot of "import" cars are actually built right here in america. My eclipse was made in Normal, IL and about 90% of the cars price stayed in the US.
Now power - the viper is only doing 400/400 ?? Wow. That sucks. My gto with its small 5.7L is pushing 350/363. The 05/06 gto with its 6.0L is pushing 400/400. Big price difference. Cost is hella less (new for new), more comfortable interior, still a head turner, and its an import with a domestic badge!
Anyone remember when the lotus elise came here in the us, and everyone was like WTF is that, thats cool lookin!
Well everyone has seen a viper plenty of times. But its that car you've never seen before that truly catches your eye. Holden Monaro > Pontiac GTO conversion FTW.
Rare, powerfull, comfy, head turner. Its everything the viper aspires to be.
Biggest reason not to buy a viper (and yes I can afford one). Look at the price of replacement parts !!! WTF !!!
But again, I digress. I'm not bashing the viper. Its a cool car in its own right, just overly viewed by the masses, and overpriced for what it is. Enjoy your car kid, just don't race anyone. My moneys on the evo's, sti's, and awd dsm's.
Ya can't go but so fast with no traction!

For that matter, look back to the old days of the real muscle cars and see what those can do. Shit with one of those old monsters I could roast the tires *AND* screw in the backseat
