Why is it "what should I do" but your "friend" actually bought the car? So are you and your friend the same person?

tell your friend to get his parents involved, neither of you seem grown up enough to handle such decisions on your own.
take it to another repair shop, preferably a factory dealership, and have them write up a diagnostic report ($50-75) stating the problem and the likely duration of the problem (pre-existing condition). Then read the warranty, even if "as-is", that was signed when the car was purchased. If it's outside of the warranty period, and the fix was done outside of that warranty period, eat it. If not, then ask them to fix it correctly. Document everything, as you may need a lawyer soon. Or a diaper change.

I bought a used bicycle off a neighborhood kid last summer. I went out to my shed this morning only to find that it now has a flat tire. I want a fucking refund...this shit isn't right!

Too late this time but, next time (i'm guessing you have no technical knowledge by your posts) take it to a mechanic to have a pre-purchase inspection done before buying. Usually will run around $90, and save you and your "friend" the hassle of giving reach arounds behind the corner of your local highschool for new car money.
