Saw this on the highway yesterday...

Sorry for the shitty pics(taken by a cell phone)..I was on my way in the work van(such a turd) and saw this gem go by me as I merged from I64 to I95...I tried to get as close to it as I could, without rear-ending the other idiots on the highway(fucking hate 5 oclock traffic)......I don't know the specifics, but I know it is a Porsche 911....Enjoy!

Now just think of if you would've rear-ended somebody trying to be an idiot and get a picture of a commonly seen car, and then made a stupid thread.

OMFG you saw a Porsche that had been in an accident? Wow, I've never heard of or seen such a thing in my life. Porsches are like super rare bro. Way awesome of you to have made sure to take a picture. Man one day I hope to see a Porsche in real life too. It's gonna be so sweet. I heard they only make like 5 of them a year.

I bet you were overly excited to take the pictures and put it on dargva for acceptance.

That went over as well as the hindenberg in the picture above.

I don't like either, but you have to admit VarioCam sounds way cooler than VTEC.

u rite. VarioCam definitely sounds cooler

EDIT: NIB what is the latest version of VarioCam?

Niburu 02-18-2010 11:22 AM

Re: Saw this on the highway yesterday...

The most current version is called VarioCam Plus

VarioCam Plus combines variable valve timing with two-stage lift on the intake side. The two-stage valve-lift function is performed by electro-hydraulically operated switchable tappets. Each of these 12 tappets consists of concentric lifters which can be locked together by means of a pin. The inner lifter is actuated by a small cam lobe, while the outer ring element is moved by a pair of larger-profile lobes. The timing of each valve is seamlessly adjusted by means of an electro-hydraulically operated rotary vane adjuster at the head of each intake camshaft.

Valve timing and the valve profile are continuously altered according to conditions and engine load. For improved responsiveness on cold starts, VarioCam Plus raises the amount of lift and retards valve timing. At medium revs with minimal loads, the valve lift is lowered and timing advanced to help minimize fuel consumption and emissions. For maximum power and torque, the lift is raised and the timing is advanced. This system debuted on the 1999 Porsche 996 Turbo.

If there is anything i learned from GI Joe, it's that knowledge was half the battle, the other half apparently was kicking ass with high tech military grade gadgets.

it's surprisingly easy to work on, probably because they were still hand assembled at that point
and it's not real fast but it is fun to toss around

it needs a few things
like heat for one
PO wanted to make it into a "race car" so he took out the AC system (yay) and the heat system (boo)
