06+ wrx and sti's dont have the uppipe cat anyway, so dont worry about that. the reason for this is because over time that cat will break apart and end up in your turbo.

You should be fine. If they question it tell them it's an updated part from the dealer or something to that effect.

As long as you don't have a CEL, it shouldn't matter.

You've done your turbo a favor by getting rid of that factory up pipe.

take it to a recycling center and get maybe 10 dollars for it and be happy that you've protected your investment and recycled an expensive commodity!

if you've got the factory down pipe then you still have 2 more cats in the exhaust so you'll still pass smog in cali should you have to. if not... high flow, VA inspections are entirely different from the actual regulations on exhaust. you'll be fine. I've been inspected at reputable shops with a single HF Cat.

The uppipe cat was required to meet US emissions, the turbo uses enough of the exhaust energy that the downstream cats weren't getting up to operating temp fast enough to meet the regulations at the time, so they added the uppipe one as a band-aid.

Unless someone is pretty familiar with WRXs, they probably won't even know that there was an uppipe cat to begin with.

Your normal inspector won't ever notice something like that. So long as you have a cat in place and no CELs you'll be fine.

Actually the reason for that is they changed enough things (including the newer cats) that they don't need it any more to pass US 50 state emissions.
