safety and emissions concern wrx
i have an aftermarket uppipe that i bought for my bugeye i noticed the stock one has a cat converter on it and the one i bought doesnt, just wondering if this will make a difference when i go to get the safety inspection because i dont wanna fail due to the catless uppipe. also to anyone that has an aftermarket uppipe installed in their subaru is this good for a first mod ?any comments for the mod ???? and will i need bigger TMIC?

06+ wrx and sti's dont have the uppipe cat anyway, so dont worry about that. the reason for this is because over time that cat will break apart and end up in your turbo.

ya but i have buyeye its 02 but im guessing the mechanics wont bother to check the uppipe cuz its not on the checklist

You've done your turbo a favor by getting rid of that factory up pipe.
take it to a recycling center and get maybe 10 dollars for it and be happy that you've protected your investment and recycled an expensive commodity!
if you've got the factory down pipe then you still have 2 more cats in the exhaust so you'll still pass smog in cali should you have to. if not... high flow, VA inspections are entirely different from the actual regulations on exhaust. you'll be fine. I've been inspected at reputable shops with a single HF Cat.

The uppipe cat was required to meet US emissions, the turbo uses enough of the exhaust energy that the downstream cats weren't getting up to operating temp fast enough to meet the regulations at the time, so they added the uppipe one as a band-aid.
Unless someone is pretty familiar with WRXs, they probably won't even know that there was an uppipe cat to begin with.
