Your buddy is looking at around 3k for an install. Is the car a GTS right now?

I think he would be better off doing a fully built 16v. I was also tossing around the idea of the 20v but when i got some quotes i was decided on the 16v with alot of work done to it. Im building a hi-comp 16v. C/R will be around 12:1, pistons, rods, cams, ITBS, valve train and all.

20v are nice though. i had a blacktop 20v in my 89 sc mr2 i used for autox i put a rod threw the block. I wanted to go almotor so I installed the 20v it lowered my lap times by alot, pulls out of corners in second like a beaut unlike the 4agze which i use to have to throw in first to pull me out.
When i moved to germany i ended up totaling it on the Norisring track on a visitor open session.

Dont get me wrong they are a nice motor, just not the price of install and the work that needs to be done to complete it. Id rather take the 4ag 16v and build it.

+1
Id rock a 16 hi-comp all day.
We did one at my house its a lot of work and being SR5 itll be even more exspensive and time consuming. Plus if you dont have a distributer relocation kit(1200 new) youll have to recess the firewall to clear the distributer.

When i had my ae92 i heard from alot of people that did silvertop and black top swaps that you have to keep the itb's in sync and that this was alot of work. Also i heard the engine doesnt run so good on 93 pump gas cause it made for japanese high octane gas.
