Default Question for all car enthusiast

What is this that I hear that as an individual I am only aloud to register an alotted amount of cars per year before I need to be known as a dealer? I had no clue about this law until the DMV starts hasseling me when I go to register a vehicle. I have an issue with never sticking with the same car for more then a month, but I know a lot of people here on drag do the same thing as me and swap from car to car. Are they pulling one over my head on this 5 car in a 12 month period limitation? The lady said that the period starts within the first car registered. If this is true I would have to say it is completely wrong. I am not making money off of these cars, so why should I have to get a dealers liscence?

DMV is right, its just another Virginia law. Keep a car longer than a month, keep the car and don't register it, or deal with it.

i went to the dmv and they said that there is no law prohibiting you from selling more than 3 cars in one year, but they just dont want you to do it. but the dmv teller may just be an idiot

5 cars is suppose to be the limit. It just isn't right. I am limited on family members I can use, and when I ask of how I could obtain a dealers liscence the teller gives me the shrugged shoulders. I love the dmv

your only allowed to title 4 cars a year in VA, its been like that forever.. thats why if its a car your planning on fix to sell, dont title/register it or atleast not in your name

Yes you can. Me and a friend were going to get ours to buy and sell cars with, just never did. A lot or storage facility is no issue.

think what you want, but I know what I do is not retarded. I will be obtaining a dealer's liscence now thanks to the info given in this thread. I think the problem I really have with this law is it really imposes a limitation on property the average person can buy. There is no restrictions on how many houses you can buy in a set year.
