Now I understand that whenever someone modifies a car they have prefferences and guidelines that they wish to go by. There's nothing wrong with completely ignoring a v8 swap simply because you want to stick with a rotary...fair enough.

But if your reasons for sticking rotary are because of gas mileage/longevity/cost/performace than I'd do some research.

I know its definitely not for everyone, and thats understandable. But on paper and all the sentimental bs aside, an lsx rx7 is far superior.

This is what the "hype" is about.

-400whp with intake/exhaust/cam
-you could expect 28 highway mpg with a 6 speed.
-Almost perfect 50/50 weight distribution due to the all aluminum motor.
-MUCH more dependable.

I know this topic has been beaten to death, but it seems like you don't know much about the swap (no offense) so I'm just offering the other side of the story.

And now I'm waiting for the rotary die hards to come bitch me out.

no offense taken your right I don't know much about the swap and I bet with enough $ I could build a very fast rx7 and if I had the money I would defently buy another rx7 just to tinker with and have the best of both worlds. By the way how much would I be looking at money wise if I did do an ls1 swap which is seriously what i'll prolly do once the rotary is dead and is there any good write ups anywhere on this swap i.e. what all has to be done and or switched out. oh, don't mean to change subject but is the headlight switch issue a common flaw in these cars b/c right now the switch will flip the lights up but not on? I've got them hooked to a toggle switch rightnow, what I want to know is it the switch itself or faulty wiring?

There's so many routes to go once you commit to a v8 swap.

Getting an ls1 or other lsx type motor will pretty much be your best bet since they are all aluminum (lightweight) and are super easy to mod. A bone stock ls1 will usually put you just over 300 whp and at 330ish wtq.

They're everywhere man. 98-02 camaros/firebirds, GTO's, Vettes. You could even use a 5.3 liter from a silverado and do a stroker kit. I'm not sure what all is needed since it's an fc rx7 but it's probably easier than you might think.

I'm no expert on the swap by any means but I'd guess you could spend 5k to get a strong ls1 in your car done right. It really is a mean setup man.

(and whoever was complaining about gas mileage going down with a v8 swap might need to look into that. Rotaries suck some gas up compared to an ls1)
