question about an 87 rx7 13b non-turbo rotary
yeah even though it runs well your prolly gonna hit a snag, seriously do that compression test though the n/a are set to last 150 to 200k, if you dont have a compression tester another good way to tell is remove your 2 trailing spark plugs (the bottom ones) open the fuse box in the engine bay and remove both egi fuses (40A and 30A) and have someone crank the motor with the gas pedal to the floor, and you should be listening for 3 loud consecutive pssshhh noises from the front hole and 3 loud consecutive pssshhh noises from the back hole, but the back sounds should be alternating with the front, if any pssh is quieter than any of the others your gonna need to check your corner seals cause theyre prolly damaged.
OK, just check out the compression and everything seems to be OK. All psshh sounds sound exactly the same and very strong! I think I may have a good motor that may have already been rebuilt somewhere along the line I dunno
Don't ruin your RX with a V8. Forget all that. You can get some speed off the line with out boost. Like nunchuckgun said, get familiar with the motor. One of my friends had a rebuilt '83 7.(this was in the ninety's) He drop a built rotary motor in it, wish I could remember where he got it, I think it was from a shop in California. No boost was added. He did to some rear in work for acceleration. Not much could run with it. No Mustang and only a handful of vettes at the time. And of course when it came to the twistys, it was in a class by itself. Get to know Mazda, your going to love it.
trust me I wouldn't ruin this prefectly good running rx7 with a v8 I love the rotary motor, besides these cars are true classic's and hard to find especially in the condition mine is in. I'll prolly leave it the way it is for now but when it comes time to rebuild i'll either look into building this motor up or buying a t2

wow you people are talking shit about ruining a rx7 with a v8 with no research, it has no effect on the 51/49 weight distribution and can even handle better due to the lower center of gravity of the v8 power plant and its position behind the front strut towers.
there not talking shit about a v8 conversion just simply saying that there's different strokes for different fokes i.e. some would op for a v8 conversion and some are die hard rotary fans which is the motor this car was designed for. Maybe a v8 conversion would be great for an rx7 that is already ready for the bone yard but not one that is in mint condition and with a lil work would be just as fast as if it had a v8 but without all the work and butchering and still retaining good gas mileage.
butchering? they make bolt in kits, and any rx7 person will tell you if you have a motor with over 150xxx miles its not a question of if its gonna blow up but when. a "lil work" wont get you anywhere near the Hp/Tq of a small block in the same chassis. speaking from experience good luck finding a decent shop to do any power-adding work to the 13b, good luck with your build though.
