question about an 87 rx7 13b non-turbo rotary
hi, I'm new to the mazda scene I've always been a honda guy but I picked this rx7 up that is in near perfect condition but I'm not satisfied with power and performance of the 13b non turbo rotary motor. Does anyone know anything about this motor and what can be done to it to get some power. Any input would be greatly appreciated thanks.
buy another car and save yourself the headace-jk(kinda)
you need aftermarket apex seals and boost thats the only way to go
edit: i noticed your location i sold my white gxl to a guy there, what model do you have?

its been a while but i seem to remeber the mounts being exactly the same if thats what your asking, it should only be a google search away. either way you'll still need to upgrade apex seals to make any real power and shops that do good work on those motors are few and far between.
Dump a v8 in it. Kits can be had to make it pretty much bolt in. Like the guy said above going to be hard to find shops that can actully work on them. Had a 84 se way back in the day. Pretty fun car back then.
those are some hot rx7's, question though if I did a v8 conversion would the rear end have to change also? Really all I'm looking for outta mine is some out of the hole power my rx7 is pretty quick but it doesn't get it's power till mid to high rpm range is this normal for the rotary? it pulls pretty good from 3,500rpm up but a snail could beat me off the line but I will have to say this thing is a blast to drive I've never owned anything that handles as good as this car does, at least Mazda got one thing right. Thanks for everybody's input and I've got a few ideas now!
ey bud, rx7club.com is a great place, this site is worthless for rotaries, get very familiar with the 13b, if you dont you'll fuck it up fast. and if you want more hp and dont want to go turbo get er street ported, bigger injectors, prolly 750 primaries and secondaries, then of course you'll need supporting mods for that, safc and a new ecu, my favs the rtek system, and a wideband. get a new walboro fuel pump & get it rewired to 12v (normally i think its like 9v) new exhaust, and do a compression test immediately if you havent already, if your psi for the motor is anywhere around 90 or 80, your gonna need a rebuild pretty soon.. if your going to go turbo your going to need a turbo motor aka 13bt dont turbo the n/a motor, itll die very fast.. ive never gotten into the v8 rx's cause i dont like the way v8's sound so im clueless on that factor, and i think the 13bt bolts in dont remember, if you need to know anything else shoot me a pm or something
Great website! lots of info. I haven't had a conpression test done yet but my rx7 has about 157k on it and runs extremely well
