Any idea why the Ins. is soo high for the new VW's.

 

its really not that high.
VW is known to appeal to a younger crowd.
Younger crowds tend to crash more.
The Legacy and Mazda6 are looked at as family sedans
A more mature crowd, which means less risk.
Not to mention the VW isn't AWD and the other two are.
Legacy also received the IIHS Gold pick which is given to 4 cars a year.

All in all, if my record wasn't so horrible I'd be fine, it's not like it would be high to someone with a clean record. But unfort. a big part in this purchase will involve insurance. Because right now I'll be paying 320 a month with a 2000 and 1000 dollar deductable and minimum everything else. which is rediculous. That's on a Legacy or Mazdaspeed 6 or 04 GLI. In a year however it should go down substantially. In 3 years most of my violations will be dropped as well. So I'll just have to deal for now.

 

I would have said gti but oh well.I would get the subi instead of the mazda

 

You keep watching that same exhaust video with the legacy in it...Shouldn't that say something to you? Subaru, like someone said youll change the stereo its not a big deal.

 

I vote Mazda.. its a nice looking car. That can look professional and sporty at the same time..

 

i'd go with the subaru. after having two friends who have GTI's, on MK2 and one MK3, they both had headaches, along with any other VW owner i've ever met. not to mention the GM for the VW dealership on the BLVD dated my best friends dad, we went up there to say hi and were asking her about VW's, she straight up said don't buy one, they have lots of problems and theres always something wrong with it.

needless to say the two people i know with VW's have successfully turned me off ever owning a VW

 

Oddly enough, I've owned a '04 VW R32 (48000 miles), '02 VW Eurovan (60000),
'98 Jetta GLX VR6 (50000), '97 GTI VR6 (140000), and '92 GTI 16V (40000) and rarely had an issue. Just sold the R32 yesterday and the only thing ever to go wrong was a faulty brake-light switch. The R32, Eurovan, and Jetta were purchased brand new and never had an issue with reliability. The two GTI's were purchased used, and the GTI VR6 only needed a new clutch. Other than that, they were rock solid. I guess I'm lucky.

I've been around VWVortex enough to know that WutupYo does speaks the truth... plenty of unreliable VW's. The guy who bought my R32 said he owned a '02 Beetle Turbo and '04 VW Jetta Wagon. The Beetle was rock solid, but the Jetta Wagon was nothing but headaches from day one. Sounds like a coinflip with VW's these days and I guess I got lucky so far.

I would definitely rule out the Mk5 GTI or Jetta. I believe it is much too soon for that new chassis. Give it time so VW can weed out all of the problems/gremlins and come out with better models before plopping down all that cash on one.

In your situation (with awful insurance rates), I would buy a beater mobile. Save your money, since the total cost of ownership will be rediculous (insurance, gas, etc). My R32 only cost me $66.50/month ($399/6mo)with State Farm for full coverage and 100/250 deductibles. Just save your money now and get your driving record clean and make sure you have good credit (that's what helped me in the long run).

 

Now that everyone mentions it, you know how much crap ive gone through with Karlies VW...And its a 2000. She got the shitty flip of that coin.
