Default MPG question

my boy is trying to sell me a 02 eclipse with a 97 turbo on it and a few other upgrades. what do you guys think this thing gets to the gallon? he wants to sell it to me for $2000 which i think is a steal. (he just got a $156,000 settlement check from an accident so wants to get rid of his current cars)

im wondering because i drive a 97 explorer to the burg and back every day and that kinda been killin me with 18mpg.

yea thats what im thinking as well, hed probably be pissed thats why i want to keep it for at least a while...only thing that is bothering me is that he has no catalytic converter on it and the check engine light has been coming on and off since december...could that just be a fried o2 sensor or all those other crazy sensors that go nuts with turbos?

and any MPG guesses?
