This might make you look at a C5/C6 differently...
Dont get me wrong, Iv driven a C5 Z06 and I will own one sooner or later. It might not be as good as a C6 but I like the way they look more than the new Z06. Pop up headlights look so much better.
The point was comparing them to higher end cars. The crank being .030 off on your center main is a little much for such a nice motor.

The guy who made the post is not anyone official... however he wrapped up many things I know or have learned from visits to the National Corvette Museum and the Production Plant in Bowling Green in a well written passage.
Remember... you're going off one guy's off-hand comment. Normally the crankshafts are fine. The imbalace issues come from slightly mismatched pistons/rods in a mass produced motor. Like I said, the cars that need it get a counter balanced flywheel and/or front damper at final assembly. Some have made 1000 hp on the stock crank, and the consensus is that an aftermarket forged crank isn't always needed. However forged pistons/rods are as the stockers are cast.

^ Neither... I don't care about "class" etc... I like the engineering, performance, looks, history, heritage all at a price point I can afford.
The fact that the car is amazing on the race track is why I bought it. I purchased the car in April of '03, at the time it was between a new '03 Cobra or the z06. I was hooked on track events so I went for the Corvette.

Also the big difference between a Porsche/ Ferrari and Corvette is how the engine is built.
A VERY reputable teacher of mine (built engines for a couple nascar teams and has owned two engine performance businesses himself) told me about the LS2/LS6 engines being one of the worst balanced V8 motors he has come across.
He said he has rebuilt around 30 of them. All the motors he received were brand new from factory and in half of them the crank was untrue, as far as .030.

Well I would point out the flaw in your teachers experience. If he knew that the LSX series motors use a center thrust bearing instead of the old style end thrust bearings he would know why they have up to .030 off center. A lot of this is to reduce torsional deflection that occurs. There are no issues with balance on this motor.
Nope, I still view the Corvette the same:
A redneck Ferrari with a bunch of obsessive owners.
Kinda like Notre Dame football fans.
